The event was organised by CPI Financial, the publisher of Islamic Business & Finance, which was established in Dubai in 1999. The awards ceremony was attended by some 300 distinguished regional and global industry professionals from around the world.

The awards were finalised based on a peer voting methodology and the winners were determined by the decision of the magazine's global readership. However, the Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Tan Sri Dato' Azman under the individual category was based on nominations from voters instead of choosing from a shortlist.

"It is certainly an honour for me to receive this award, as it is an acknowledgment of our staff's commitment and contributions that have led to the phenomenal growth of this sector especially during one of the most challenging periods in the history of banking and finance. Another recent award received by Tan Sri Dato' Azman include Most Outstanding Individual for Contribution to Islamic Finance during the KLIFF (Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum) Awards 2009 held on 3 November 2009 in Kuala Lumpur, which was presented by YB Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
