Zubair and Ashley back at the 12th AmBank Group-SportExcel International Junior Golf Championship 2017

Defending champions and Malaysia’s top junior golfers, Zubair Firdaus and Ashley Lau will be back for the 12th AmBank SportExcel International Junior Golf Championship 2017. The tournament will be held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam, Selangor which commences from 4-7 December 2017.

Rising stars K. Rhaasrikanesh, Adam Arif Mazri, Muhd Afif Mohd Fathi and Winnie Ng Yu Xuan are among the notable players expected to perform well at the 12th Edition of the AmBank Group-SportExcel International Junior Golf Championship 2017. Winnie Ng Yu Xuan recently emerged as the best amateur player in the Sime Darby LPGA 2017.

The tournament will feature 64 junior golfers from Malaysia and 45 international players from Thailand (17), India (8), China (8), Indonesia (5), South Korea (3), Australia (3), and Taiwan (1). The AmBank Group has once again come on board to sponsor this prestigious junior golf tournament for the 12th consecutive time. The Best Overall player from the White Tee (Girls 13-14 and 15-18 age group category) at last year’s tournament, Ashley Lau Jun Wen (category Girls A) will be defending her title for the third time, and Zubair Firdaus, who last year won the Best Overall player from the Blue Tee (Boys 13-14 and 15-18 age group category) will be vying for the Boys Category A title this year.

The Best Player from the Blue Tee (Boys 13-14 and 15-18 age group category) and White Tee (Girls 13-14 and 15-18 age group category) will also be vying for the Tan Sri Azman Hashim trophies, named after the AmBank Group Chairman. There is also the best team category where the winning team will be presented with the Tunku Imran Trophy.

For the 12th AmBank Group-SportExcel International Junior Golf Championship 2017, the 109 juniors will play in six group categories as below:

The main prize categories in the Championship are:

• 1st-5th placing for each category.

• Best Overall Player (Blue Tee) and Best Overall Player (White Tee).

• Inter Country Team Champion.


The player with the best overall gross score off the blue teeing ground (Boys) and white teeing ground (Girls) will receive a one-year scholarship at the Hills Golf Academy in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018. In addition, four players will be offered a one-month Hills Golf Academy scholarship.
