AmBank Group’s Malaysia Day 2014 Celebration Highlights the Connectedness of Being Malaysian

In conjunction with Malaysia Day this year, AmBank Group put the spotlight on some traits and traditions in a celebration that demonstrated true “Malaysianness” while at the same time promoting the spirit of Connectivity to staff and customers that the AmBank Group has at its heart.

Commencing at 12 noon today, a distribution of “Malaysian Treats” was held concurrently in eight buildings across the AmBank Group in Kuala Lumpur. 8,500 packs of the treats consisting of Kuih Bahulu (representing a Malay delicacy), Muruku (highlighting Indian flavours) and Kuih Bangkit (satisfying taste buds with a Chinese favourite) were distributed to both customers and staff alike on a first-come-first-served basis, to the thrill of all the recipients. The “Malaysian treats” were supplied by a group of single mothers from the Persatuan Ibu Ibu Tunggal Wilayah Batu Pahat.

The “Malaysian Treats”, with the various varieties to represent the various races living together harmoniously in Malaysia, were given out across the Group’s buildings i.e. Bangunan AmBank Group (Jalan Raja Chulan), Menara AmBank (Jalan Yap Kwan Seng), Menara AmMetLife (Jalan Lumut), Menara Kurnia (Petaling Jaya), Tropicana Fairway 3, Menara MBf and Menara Dion (both in Jalan Sultan Ismail), Wisma AmBank (Jalan Pudu).

Organised by Kelab AmBank Group, the Group’s sports club, the distribution of treats at Menara AmBank saw Tuan Syed Anuar Syed Ali, President, Kelab AmBank Group and Senior General Manager, Group Corporate Communications and Marketing, AmBank Group and Puan Suraya Hassan, Executive Vice President, Retail Distribution, AmBank (M) Berhad on hand to distribute the boxes of tasty delights to customers and staff alike.

Simultaneously, AmBank Group staff celebrated “Traditional Attire Week”, from 15 – 22 September, extending the festive mood of Malaysia Day to a full week. All employees are encouraged to wear traditional Malaysian attire throughout the week. Employees were seen sporting Baju Melayu, Baju Kurung, Kurta, Sari and Cheongsam amongst others, and branch staff were even on hand to serve customers in their traditional dress.

Tan Sri Azman Hashim, Chairman, AmBank Group said, “It was a delight for us to be able to share a few special moments with our customers and staff, through the distribution of 8,500 packs of various delicacies from the various cultural traditions in Malaysia, highlighting the firmly entrenched spirit of Malaysian generosity and sharing. In addition, customers walking into AmBank Group’s branches and offices across the nation will be greeted by a palette of colours as staff come dressed in their own traditional costumes.”

“To further cement the spirit of connectedness of the various races and cultures in Malaysia, AmBank Group staff have also appeared dressed in the attire of a race and culture other than their own e.g. a Chinese staff is dressed in Baju Kurung. This is truly a celebration of the spirit of oneness of the people of Malaysia. We are also pleased to be able to provide some support for the Persatuan Ibu-Ibu Tunggal Wilayah Batu Pahat by having them as providers of the ‘Malaysian Treats’,” added Tan Sri Azman.

After treating the senses of taste and sight, experiencing the celebration aurally was not forgotten. A group of talented AmBank Group staff assembled in the foyer of Menara AmBank to sing “Di Sini Lahirnya Sebuah Cinta”, this year’s patriotic song which made its debut on National Day, or Hari Merdeka on 31 August. The song will also be aired in nine AmBank Group buildings in the Klang Valley from 15-22 September, twice a day at 9.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.

A “Wefie” (a photo taken in the same fashion as a “selfie” but with two or more people) contest is being held for AmBank Group staff from 15-22 September to take advantage of “Traditional Attire Week”. Staff simply need to submit photos of themselves in traditional costume together with a creative caption that includes the words “Connectivity”, “Connected” or “Connection” to stand a chance to walk away with cash prizes.

Tan Sri Azman further added, “This celebration of Malaysianness and connectedness coinciding with Malaysia Day certainly helps us live our brand promise of being ‘Your Bank. Malaysia’s Bank. AmBank.’”
