Joint Statement by Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia from the 12th Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3) Meeting

29 February 2024

The Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3) held its 12th meeting on 23 February 2024 to review the progress of ongoing work and discuss priorities and action plans of JC3 for the year.

In 2024, JC3 will continue to work with the Government, the financial industry and its partners on specific action plans to support a just and orderly transition of the economy. The members endorsed the plans to continue focusing on increasing financial flows for climate transition and adaptation, and building resilience against climate-related risks.

AmBank Group Continues Its Collaboration with The Lost Food Project (TLFP)

AmBank Group Sustainability 

In conjunction with AmBank Group Sustainability Journey, AmBank Group continues its collaboration with TLFP for the third years with a contribution of RM50,000. The contribution will enable TLFP to continue their efforts to relief hunger amongst the needy by rescuing food from going to the landfill.


FINCO English Literacy – Physical Story Telling

AmBank volunteers participated in FINCO physical Story Telling with SK Meru (2) Klang on 24 August 2023. In the session, the volunteers encouraged the students to have two-way interactions and also came out with some simple games to help them sharpen their communication skills which received encouraging participation from the students.


FINCO English Literacy – Virtual Story Telling

A number of AmBank volunteers participated in the FINCO English Story Telling sessions for a few schools namely SK Seri Alam 2, Pasir Gudang on 3 August 2023, SK Panggau Perlis, SK Bukit Mahkota and SK Felda Lok Heng, Kota Tinggi, Johor on 17 August 2023, SJKT Kangar Perlis & SK Sikamat on Monday, 21 August 2023, SJK Yong Kwong on 23 August 2023 which is part of FINCO Outreach Programme for English Literacy pillar. The programme aims to encourage the students to learn and use English Language to communicate with people outside their school with confidence. This is also to cultivate interest and habit amongst the students to speak as much English as possible anywhere, anytime.

Our Chief Group Strategic Transformation Officer also volunteered in the CEO FINCO Story Telling virtual session on 10 August 2023 with students from SK Seri Permaisuri, SK Taman Midah 1, Kuala Lumpur and SK Haji Ramli, Perak.

As part of AmBank Group's Sustainability Journey, AmBank Group joined hands with Glyde Sdn Bhd to raise awareness on nurturing a greener future and contributing to a healthier planet.

With Glyde's Farmy Vertical Farming, the audiences learn more about its environmental-friendly sustainable farming method through a Learn and Lunch talk.

During the launch of the Vertical Farming event, Eqhwan Mokhzanee, CEO, AmBank Islamic, spoke on how AmBank Group supports the agrobusiness industry, whilst Adnan Teh, Advisor, Glyde S/B, talked about the factors that could help spur the growth of vertical farming methods in Malaysia.


AmBank Group Sustainability Journey: Coral Reef Restoration – AmBank Group Collaborates With Reef Check Malaysia

AmBank Group Sustainability Journey 

In conjunction with AmBank Group Sustainability Journey, AmBank Group is collaborating with Reef Check Malaysia (RCM) to help with restoration Malaysia’s precious coral reefs by contributing RM20,000.00 to aid in rehabilitating of coral reef fragments in Pulau Tioman. Following our contribution of RM20,000, six AmBankers who are licensed divers participated in the coral reef restoration effort in Kg. Tekek, Pulau Tioman from 28 to 30 July 2023. Under the partnership with RCM, our volunteers managed to rehabilitate 216 coral fragments that covered approximately 70 square feet of the ocean floor. It is hoped that this effort will help to further conserve marine biodiversity through sustainable, community-based coral reef rehabilitation.

AmInvest has introduced its Sustainable Series – Global Lower Carbon Equity Fund (“Fund”), which is a long-term capital growth fund.

The new Fund is in line with AmBank Group’s commitment to sustainability and adds to the five other Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) funds1 under the Sustainable Series that AmInvest has already launched.

This latest new Fund is created for investors who are responding to the climate challenge by adopting strategies to lower the carbon impact of their investment portfolios. Companies are gearing up for the transition to a climate-resilient and low-carbon economy. This transition will support innovative companies which are driving solutions to the climate challenge and creating positive investment opportunities in the process.”


Sustaina-Plastic: The Plastic 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover) Revolution

In line with the AmBank Group Sustainability journey, we are committed in reducing its environmental impact and carbon footprint through its Responsible Consumption initiative by introducing the eco-based detergent vending machine and recycle bins which was launched by Ms Faradina Mohamed Ghouse, Group Chief Compliance on Thursday, 25 May 2023. This is in collaboration with ReadyCare, who is the First prize Winner of AmBank BizRace Season 3. Both eco-based detergent vending machines and detergent bottle recycle bins will be available at our three (3) main buildings, Bangunan AmBank Group, Menara AmBank and Wisma AmFirst for a period of 3 months.

AmBank Group donated food packs, comprised of daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, flour, sugar and Raya cookies to 500 asnaf families through its collaboration with Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) nationwide in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In addition, we also distributed hampers to 600 selected B40 students from schools in Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Johor, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak that were also under AmBank adopted School Programme.

AmBank Group organized a ‘Buka Puasa’ with SK (2) Kuala Ampang’s children from the B40 families at Dewan Felda on Wednesday, 19 April 2023. This is to treat the kids for them to enjoy variety of food and drinks for ‘buka puasa’.

AmBank Group sponsored 120 Asnaf and B40 kids for CSR Raya Shopping on Tuesday, 18 April 2023. Each kids were allocated RM200 for them to buy Raya clothes, bag, shoes and also other Raya items. AmBank’ volunteers brought the children from SK (2) Kuala Ampang for Raya shopping at Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket in Subang Jaya. With this great opportunity, we hope that it could bring joy and happiness to the kids.

FINCO - CORE MODULE BUDGETING WORKSHOP PROGRAMME 

Core Module and Budgeting Workshop for the secondary students is part of FINCO programme and activities that was organised to equip students with financial awareness and literacy. The students are encouraged to create and plan their own personal financial budget during the session. This workshop was held at SMK Zon R1 Wangsa Maju in Kuala Lumpur.


The Lost Food Project (TLFP) – Staff Volunteering Session

The Lost Food Project (TLFP) 

We collaborated with The Lost Food Project (TLFP) in organising a one-day volunteering programme with our staff on Thursday, 13 April 2023.

In this programme, volunteers were given the opportunity to help in sorting out fresh produce, dry goods inventory and attended composting workshop.

We have managed to sort out six tonnes of fresh produce which was distributed to 17 charity homes.


CSR – Ramadan (Pertubuhan Kebajikan & Pendidikan Cahaya Kasih & Persatuan Rumah Kebajikan anak-anak Yatim & Ibu Tunggal

CSR – Ramadan 

In conjunction with the Ramadan Month, we have collected contribution via staff donation drive for the two homes namely Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Pendidikan Cahaya Kasih (40 children) and Persatuan Rumah Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim & Ibu Tunggal (38 children). With the staff donation, we bought gifts such as ‘telekung’, ‘kopiah’ and ‘sejadah’ for the kids.

Buka Puasa was also held at both homes during the gift distributions on Tuesday, 11 April 2023 and Monday, 17 April 2023. We hope that it would be a meaningful celebration for the kids.

AmBank-FINCO second physical English Story Telling this year was with SK Puchong on 12 April 2023 which is part of FINCO Outreach Programme. In this programme, we act as a role model for the kids to learn and use English Language to communicate effectively with people outside their school in real life situation. We had two-way interactions with the students and they were actively very supportive. We also cultivated an interest of the student which English language can be the primary tool for expression and communication.

AmBank Group supports the green economy by participating in the inaugural auction of Bursa Carbon Exchange when Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) recently announced that its subsidiary, the Bursa Carbon Exchange (“BCX”), had successfully carried out the nation’s inaugural carbon credit auction on 16 March 2023. The auction, which was carried out electronically, with 15 buyers from various industries purchasing a total of 150,000 Verra-registered carbon credits.  AmBank (M) Berhad, AmBank Islamic Berhad and AmInvestment Bank Berhad were proud to​ be amongst the successful bidders at the auction.

AmBank Run 2023 was held on Saturday, 11 March 2023 with more than 1,400 staff participated in this event with different categories being organized from 10km, 5km and 3km fun run.

This event is a great opportunity for the AmBankers to connect each other and to encourage staff to live a healthy lifestyle by always staying fit and healthy.

On Sunday, 12 March 2023, six (6) AmBank volunteers from Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi branch have volunteered with the cleaning-up work in SK Canossian Convent, Segamat from morning till afternoon.

With our volunteer assistance, we hope that students returned to school with a conducive learning environment .

AmBank launched a donation drive to help raise funds amongst its employees for MERCY Malaysia Turkiye-Syria 2023 Earthquake Response Fund after a massive earthquake of 7.8 magnitude hit the countries. A total amount of RM80,000.00 was raised through this donation drive amongst employees.

Head of Group Communications & Marketing, Encik Shazman Shahid presented the cheque to MERCY Malaysia at the Cheque Presentation Ceremony on 4 April 2023.

AmBank Health & Wellness Campaign 2023 was launched on Tuesday, 14 February 2023 with exciting activities/programmes made available for staff to participate in the three main buildings at Bangunan AmBank Group, Menara AmBank and Wisma AmFIRST.

“I AmSihat” slogan was introduced, accompanied with an interesting health and wellness activities from 13 February 2023 to 4 March 2023. In order to promote a fit and healthy lifestyle, Fitness Challenges via an apps were launched for a month where the staff can join and stand a chance to win attractive prizes for Fat Lost Challenge, Steps Challenge and Healthy Eater Challenge. Blood donation and group fitness workouts were also being organized for the staff to stay healthy and stay fit.

In conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration, we have collected fund through our staff donation drive for Dual Blessing Berhad, a non-profit organisation for the disabled community. This contribution would help them in their expenses of providing vocational trainings to the disabled and purchasing additional vans to ease the mobilisation of the disabled to hospitals and clinics for medical treatment.

We hope the donation would make the Chinese New Year celebration more meaningful to the people with disabilities and less fortunate from Dual Blessing.

The mock cheque handover ceremony to Dual Blessing Berhad was held on 16 February 2023.

AmBank Group drives innovation through industry collaboration and by nurturing university students 

The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) organised the ‘University in Action Symposium’ on 19 January 2023 which showcased 173 community engagement projects that were designed and presented by 3,420 students from the university. AmBank Group was proud to collaborate with IIUM in the symposium as part of the Group’s Sustainability Journey in creating awareness through advocacy and engagement with university students.

The students presented their community projects during the ‘University in Action Symposium’ and as one of the panel jury members, Datin Zameema was able to engage with the students and appreciate the creativity and innovation that they brought to the community throughout 150 locations nationwide. Various categories of prizes were awarded for deserving projects including The Most Creative, The Most Sustainable, The Most Beneficial and The Most Integrated.

The second series of Sustainability Talk was organized with the students of Economy Faculty, IIUM.

Faradina Mohammad Ghouse, Group Chief Compliance Officer, AmBank Group spoke on how ethics and business provide a foundation for success. The topic ‘ Next Generation – Ethics’ was selected to get students’ interest about ethics and sustainability in order to inspire them to reflect on their own values and goals.

Datin Zameema presented the next talk titled ‘Climate Change + Banks’ enlightened the students on how by giving good and responsible financial advices, banks could make real positive impacts on consumers and the environment.

Sustainability 101 Training for AmBankers

The training is part of AmBank Group’s Sustainability journey, aiming to provide understanding on sustainability and why it is becoming increasingly important for organisation to embrace it.

Around 6,700 AmBankers will be participated in this virtual training which will be held in 67 sessions from October 2022 to June 2023. Module of the training include Sustainability – Introduction and Overview; UNSDG and Climate Change. We partnered Asian School of Business as the training provider for this training.

The programme collection roadshows were held at Bangunan AmBank Group, Wisma AmFirst, Menara AmBank, Penang Regional Office and JB Regional Office for both staff and customers.


Christmas CSR Organised by AmBank Group

Christmas CSR 

AmBank Group set-up a mini library/reading corner at both Rumah HOPE and Rumah Kanak-Kanak Impian. This is to promote a literacy and cultivate healthy reading habits amongst these children who range of ages from 1 year old to college students. With the contribution amount collected from AmBankers, we have also purchased various categories books from BIG BAD WOLF.


Elevating Financial Literacy – AmBank Group launched Sens-Ability, a programme crafted by Bursa Malaysia

In collaboration with Bursa Malaysia, AmBank Group recently held  “Sens-Ability”, a financial and investment literacy programme for its staff at Menara AmBank on 21 December 2022. The hybrid session was also held by AmBank Group where the virtual invitation was extended to International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)’s staff and students. This programme was conducted by Shing Yee Ling, a professional speaker who is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) Certificant and Securities Commission of Malaysia licensed Financial Planner.

The speaker presented on three main topics which were designed to establish awareness amongst individuals on financial and investment literacy


AmBank Recognised with Two FINCO Volunteer Awards at the FINCO Annual Awards Ceremony 2022

FINCO Volunteer Awards 

AmBank was honoured with two Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) Volunteer Awards 2022, namely, the award for Overall Financial Institution with the Most Volunteers (Banking) and the award for Most Engaging Volunteer which went to Darald Divesh, our staff from Group Technology Information Department.

The FINCO Annual Awards 2022 recognised the outstanding achievements and efforts of students, English teachers and school counsellors, as well as the financial industry volunteers who participated in their 2022 programmes.

AmBank had successfully volunteered 90 times in FINCO programmes in 2022 and the award-winning volunteer had shown continuous engagement and creating strong connections with a group of students during a FINCO Reads online storytelling session.

Since its inception in 2017, FINCO, a unified non-profit entity comprising financial institutions in Malaysia aims to provide underprivileged children and youth with the guidance and educational gears to achieve their life goals. FINCO aims to harnesses the collective resources of the financial industry to distribute impactful and sustainable educational initiatives that benefit underprivileged children and youth across Malaysia.

Tracy Chen, Chief Executive Officer of AmInvestment Bank spoke about ‘Why ESG’ and highlighted the importance of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors for companies and how sustainable business growth is key to ensuring long term sustainability.

Shazman Shahid, Head of Group Corporate Communications and Marketing, AmBank Group conducted the next Talk on ‘Financial Literacy’. He shared and stressed to the students on the importance of having knowledge on personal financial management in order to ensure that each individual’s desired financial goals are achieved at different stages of the person’s life cycle.


FINCO’s Flood Responders Training Programme

FINCO Flood Responders Training 

The Flood Responders Training Programme was organised by the Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) and Malaysia International Search and Rescue Academy (MISAR) on 27 November 2022.

The training was conducted by MISAR Academy and its cover simulations from flood escape, rescue exercises and fast first aid to aiding the elderlies. A number of volunteers from AmBank Group participated in this training and each of them were awarded with MISAR Certificate.

Beach Clean-up Initiative 

AmBank Group recently continued its collaboration with MY Clean Beach in tackling the issue of plastic pollution as a means of protecting and preserving marine life by organising a beach clean-up initiative at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Selangor on 4 November 2022. MY Clean Beach is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) comprising volunteers who work together to conduct beach clean-up drives and raise awareness on the importance of protecting and preserving marine life by tackling the issue of plastic pollution in the sea and on beaches.

IT Asset Management (ITAM) has been playing its part in environmentally friendly Electronic Waste (eWaste) management efforts within AmBank Group since the past few years by ensuring ethical disposal of all IT assets collected from the respective business units. ITAM works closely with our appointed Environmental Management System vendor which is ISO-Certified (ISO14001:2015) to ensure that the e-waste disposal is successfully achieved.

Dato’ Sulaiman Mohd Tahir, Group Chief Executive Officer of AmBank Group shared valuable insights with 70 secondary school students from FINCO Mentor Schools nationwide during FINCO ASPIRE - Sembang Aspirasi virtual session. He shared on the topic of “Should I Consider Furthering My Education If I Can’t Afford It?” with the students.

AmBank Group contributed decommissioned computers to SK Peradong, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan for their class usage. This benefited the school with 99 students and 13 teachers.

In this programme, the kids will get chance to communicate with people outside their school with the aim to encourage their self-confidence and to learn English Language.

AmBank Group collaborates with Department of Environment and Water (DOE) at Karnival Jom E-Waste to promote responsible E-waste management

 

The Karnival Jom E-Waste was held on 15 and 16 October 2022 at KL East Mall in conjunction with the International E-Waste Day. Organised by the Department of Environment and Water (DOE), the carnival saw various activities taking place including special appearance by celebrities.

An E-Waste booth was set up with incentive given to the mall’s visitors who deposit their electronic items. This was meant to encourage the public to play their parts in protecting our environment. The carnival received more than 2,000 visitors with 300 kg of E-Waste collected during the two-day carnival.

Datin Zameema Banu, AmBank Group’s Head of Sustainability, was present to give a talk on ‘Embracing Sustainability: Managing E-Waste Sustainably’ at the carnival.

Green Housing Conference with Cagamas

 

AmBank Group is proud to be the Gold Sponsor for “Developing and Financing Green Housing in Asia Conference 2022” organised by Cagamas Berhad. In line with the Group’s sustainability journey, the conference aimed at providing new insights and understanding in the development of sustainable green housing and green finance in Asia. Local, regional, and global leaders in their fields discussed a broad range of topics from developing green housing to reducing the overall environmental footprint of the housing sector.


FINCO Storytelling @ SK Batu Arang

 

AmBank Group staff served as volunteers for the Storytelling Session at SK Batu Arang, Selangor, one of the adopted school under AmBank School Adoption Programme.

This is a collaboration with FINCO for its English Proficiency programme which aims at improving student’s reading proficiency in English. 100 students from Year 3, 4 and 5 participated in the session. The Group had conducted over seven Storytelling Sessions this year in various schools.


AmBank inks Green Financing Facilities with Kerjaya Prospek Property for Bloomsvale

 

AmBank has recently inked green financing facilities with Kerjaya Prospek Property with a RM100 million financing to fund the development of Courtyard by Marriot Hotel at Bloomsvale, in Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur.

The collaboration continues AmBank’s momentum in meeting demand for sustainability-linked financing due to the heightened awareness on combating climate change. AmBank organised ESG Contest Amongst the Staff Nationwide

 

AmBank held its inaugural ESG Contest via Kahoot to create awareness on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) amongst the staff nationwide, attended by 1,118 employees. Over 100 questions on ESG-related topics were fielded throughout the contest period.

With this ESG Awareness Campaign 2022, it enables AmBank employees to embrace and appreciate ESG as part of their everyday life. As part of AmBank Group’s Sustainability Journey, we aspire to educate and engage employees to take responsibility and action to make our communities a better place to live in.


AmBank Group Maintains “AA” Rating for MSCI ESG Ratings

AmBank Group has maintained this globally recognised rating since 2020, which is a testament of the Group’s consistency and tenacity in following through its ESG agenda.

The rating was based on an assessment of AmBank Group’s practices covering six broad areas namely Financing Environmental Impact, Access to Finance, Human Capital Development, Privacy & Data Security, Consumer Financial Protection, Corporate Governance and Corporate Behaviour. It also highlights that AmBank Group ranks ahead of its global top five peers in its Customer Financial Protection based ib its adoption of best practices in inter alia employee training on customer financial protection.


Encouraging Eco-Friendly Choices at AmBank Group with Paper-Free Week Challenge

 

In conjunction with World Rainforest Day, AmBank Group conducted a Paper-Free Week Challenge by encouraging the employees to go paperless and minimise paper consumption.

During the course of the challenge, the number of papers printed by all departments were tracked and the Top 3 departments with the highest savings in printing were rewarded. This initiative has successfully reduced a total of 45,345 sheets from their paper consumption.


AmBank and Sime Darby Property Launch Digital Initiative and Green Financing for Homebuyers

 

AmBank Group and Sime Darby Property signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to offer homebuyers a new sustainable financing option for the purchase of Sime Darby Property homes.

This partnership provides a seamless customer experience which includes a simplified loan application process through its holistic home ownership ecosystem. AmInvestment Bank has won two awards at The Asset Triple A Sustainable Capital Markets Country & Regional Awards 2021 in March 2022. It won Best Sustainability Sukuk with SME Bank’s RM500 million ASEAN Sustainability Sukuk where AmInvestment Bank acted as the Joint Lead Manager and for Best IPO CTOS Digital’s RM 1.2 billion IPO – AmInvestment Bank acted as the Bookrunner, Managing Underwriter and Underwriter. AmInvest launch Health Fund

 

AmInvest has introduced its Sustainable Series – Health Fund, which is a long-term capital growth fund. The Fund will feed into Pictet – Health, capitalising on health megatrends as well as innovators to improve the standard of healthcare.

AmBank has partnered with Lazada, Southeast Asia's pioneer eCommerce platform, to provide holistic solutions and additional facilities to further empower Malaysia’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector. The bank is offering business financing up to RM2 million exclusively for local entrepreneurs and sellers on the Lazada Malaysia platform to grow and sustain their online businesses.

This strategic pact with Lazada paves vital digital path for MSMEs to flex their online business muscle in road to economic recovery, giving the MSMEs opportunity to generate capital to expand their online business and bounce back from the economic impact of the outbreak.

AmBank Group’s Main Buildings Are Fully Installed With LEDs

 

Working towards realising the zero greenhouse gas emission (GHG) target as part of AmBank Group’s sustainability agenda, one of the key energy management initiatives to reduce Scope 2 GHG emission has been rolled-out with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lighting installation.

Four of AmBank Group’s main buildings are fully installed with LEDs, namely Menara AmBank, Bangunan AmBank Group, Wisma AmFirst and Damansara Fairway 3.

The installation of the LED lighting in the main buildings started since 2019 and was conducted in phases before the full completion in July 2022. Meanwhile, the installation of LED at branch premises is ongoing and is targeted to be completed by the end of FY2023.


AmBank Group and Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM) Promote Sustainability for SMEs

 

AmBank Group and Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM), an affiliate of the Securities Commission Malaysia, had collaborated to host a webinar on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability for AmBank’s SME customers.

This event was organised to equip and guide SMEs on the fundamentals of ESG and simplified calculations for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

AmBank Group’s participation in this programme reflected its overall commitment towards the Group’s Sustainability Framework, which includes supporting SME customers to transit towards low carbon emissions and sustainable practices.


Banking On Islamic Finance For A Sustainable Future

 

At the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountant (MICPA) Sustainable Finance Series webinar, AmBank Group and MICPA have called upon professional accountants to uphold the responsibility in integrating sustainability best practices within their organisations.

Eqhwan Mokhzanee, CEO of AmBank Islamic, shared that Islamic Finance plays a critical role in advocating the sustainability agenda as it serves to promote protection over the environment, society and governance.

AmBank Group has also mapped out its aspirations to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) as well as value-based intermediation (VBI) during the one-hour webinar session.


Minimising Carbon Footprint at AmBank Group

 

AmBank Group continues to complement its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) best practices by creating awareness on the importance of reducing carbon footprint at workplace amongst the Bank’s employees. Staff are also encouraged to calculate their own carbon footprint at https://www.carbonfootprint.com/calculator.aspx.

Various awareness and education programmes have been actively conducted for our employees to appreciate the relationship between business and sustainability goals, particularly in minimising the carbon footprint. Additionally, various ESG-related webinars will continue to be developed as part of the ongoing virtual learning series to support this cause.


Beach Clean-up Activity in collaboration with MY Clean Beach

 

AmBank Group had collaborated with MY Clean Beach in a beach clean-up activity at Pantai Remis Jeram, Kuala Selangor. With the help of 88 AmBank Group staff volunteers, a total amount of 172.9kg of trash was collected. The collected trash was then segregated to be recycled responsibly. This beach clean-up activity is in line with AmBank Group’s Sustainability Journey to raise awareness on the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling.

Tree Planting Programme in collaboration with Yayasan Hijau

 

In collaboration with Yayasan Hijau Malaysia, AmBank Group had planted 780 trees at Taman Eko-Rimba Bukit Sg. Puteh, Kuala Lumpur as part of their ‘Greening Malaysia: National 100 million trees’ campaign. This is in line with the Group’s Sustainability Journey in reaching zero carbon emission by 2050.

AmBank Group awarded with the Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS) Certification

 

AmBank Group is the first financial institution to be awarded with the Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS) certification, which the bank received the 1-star certification for Menara AmBank. The EMGS is a certification system delivered under the ASEAN Energy Management Scheme (AEMAS) based on excellence in energy management. The EMGS 1-star assessment requires seven aspects to be assessed namely Management, Organisation, Process, Information, Financial, Corporate Responsibility and Achievement.


AmKasih Ramadan Raya CSR Programme

 

In conjunction with Ramadan Raya 2022, AmBank Group distributed food hampers to 500 asnaf families from Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia, and 600 students from AmBank Adopted Schools and FINCO Schools Alumni nationwide. The food hampers contained rice, sugar, wheat flour, cooking oil and many more.


Championing eWaste Management in AmBank Group

 

In line with the Group’s Sustainability Journey, Digital Banking of Group Information and Operations Division, in collaboration with Plugged In Malaysia, refurbished and donated computers and monitors to various NGOs that support students from low income families. This is part of the Group’s initiative in championing eWaste Management.


FINCO Budgeting Workshop

 

AmBank Group staff volunteered in the FINCO Budgeting Workshop where the objective was to improve financial awareness and budgeting skills among students. 74 secondary students from selected FINCO schools nationwide participated in the workshop. Students learned the different ways to earn an income, how much to save monthly and the difference between Needs and Wants.


FINCO Storytelling Sessions

 

FINCO Storytelling Sessions is a programme under FINCO’s English Proficiency Pillar where AmBank Group volunteers participate in various sessions to guide primary school students how best to improve their level of English proficiency. AmBank Group staff had engaged with a total of 126 students from 4 FINCO schools in February 2022.


MYReaders Programme

 

AmBank Group partnered with MYReaders to conduct an English Literacy Programme to empower school students with low reading comprehension and proficiency. The participating students were from Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia which provides shelter, education, as well as religious, spiritual and physical wellness to orphaned, underprivileged children from low-income families.

‘Invest In Our Planet’ Initiative by AmBank Retail Banking

 

In line with the Earth Day theme of ‘Invest In Our Planet’, the AmBank Retail Banking team contributed potted plants to the Building Management at Menara AmBank. The initiative was aimed at enriching the greeneries around the building and most importantly, creating awareness and reminding all AmBankers on the importance of sustainability.


AmKasih CSR Programme with SK Taman Sri Muda

 

AmKasih had contributed back-to-school kits to students from SK Taman Sri Muda. The contribution benefitted over 600 students from the B40 community, who each received two sets of school uniform, two pairs of school shoes, three pairs of school socks, two stationery sets and a school bag.


Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Agreement

 

AmBank Group has adopted the Green Electricity Tariff (GET) Programme offered by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to reduce its carbon footprint in electricity consumption. Through this programme, AmBank Group aims to reduce its Scope 2 carbon emissions by approximately 90%. Among the green initiatives implemented is investing in energy-efficient infrastructures such as installing LED lighting system for its buildings and branches nationwide.

AmBank Group’s Sustainability Framework reflects its commitment to contribute to global sustainability goals and ensures that its strategies, activities and portfolio will consider the environmental, social and governance (ESG) impact.


Earth Hour 2022

 

In support of Earth Hour, AmBank Group is taking an extra initiative by turning off the lights in its main buildings every last Saturday of the month from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. for a year.

The buildings that will be participating in the Earth Hour movement includes Menara AmBank, Bangunan AmBank Group (Kuala Lumpur), Damansara Tropicana Fairway 3, Wisma AmFirst and Bangunan AmBank Group (Kuching).


Adopt An Animal from Zoo Negara

 

In conjunction with Earth Day, AmBank Group employees participated in an “Adopt An Animal from Zoo Negara” campaign. The campaign was to raise funds for Zoo Negara to provide for the well-being of the wildlife at the zoo.

The funds will be used to sustain the provision of food and veterinary care for the animals. Also, 28 out of 29 animals at Zoo Negara were adopted through this campaign.


MYReaders English Literacy Programme

 

In line with AmBank Group’s sustainability effort and FINCO’s English Proficiency Pillar, which aims to increase English proficiency amongst primary and secondary school students, AmBank Group is partnering with MYReaders to conduct a literacy programme to empower school students with low reading comprehension and proficiency.​​

With the help from MYReaders’ literacy toolkit, AmBank staff volunteers are able to participate in this sustainable Group CSR efforts and help their mentee improve their reading proficiency in English.​​​​​​​


 

2021-2022

AmKasih – The Lost Food Project

 

AmBank Group has partnered with The Lost Food Project (TLFP) to reduce food wastage and be part of a collective effort to eliminate hunger among the B40 Community. Through our contribution, the food surplus collection increased, reaching out to 55 charity organisations, including charity homes, community centre and Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) in Klang Valley.​​

To date, our contribution has helped TLFP in their total collection of 1,239,088 kg food surplus in 2021 and prevented 3,097,605 kg CO2 from entering our atmosphere by diverting food waste.​​​​​​​​​​​​​


 

2021

AmKasih – COVID-19 Assistance Food and Tablet Distribution to B40

 

AmBank AmKasih distributed food aid for three months, on top of tablet and one-year internet data subscription to two schools in Penang. The beneficiaries from the B40 community were 21 students from SMK Sg Ara and 48 students from SMK Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah.

 

FINCO Programmes – Financial Literacy (Sharing Session by AmBank Islamic CEO)

 

Encik Eqhwan Mokhzanee, CEO, AmBank Islamic joined or FINCO’s CEO Volunteering Month: Financial Literacy and shared on ‘how to embark as an adult to earn more, manage finances and avoid bankruptcy’. This initiative is aimed at equipping secondary school students with a better understanding of how to plan for post-secondary school life.

FINCO Programmes – English Literacy

 

In collaboration with Taylor’s University, FINCO & Teach for Malaysia Alumni Association, AmBank Group organised an English & Financial Literacy Partnership Programme for the B40 community. This concerted effort involved 40 women entrepreneurs and their 19 children from Program Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) housing areas, in which they attended six classes to build skills in the areas of:​​
